| Définitions and requirements of the Standard : |
There are 4 types of harness :
- type A = Full body harness (sit + chest) adult
- type B = Small body harness – child (weight ≤ 40 Kg)
- type C = Sit harness ("classic" climbing harness)
- type D = Chest harness (upper body only)
Note : A type D harness has to be used in combination with a type C harness.

Dimensions of webbings :

The tape webbing constituting the load bearing elements which are in contact with the body must have the following widths :
- 33 mm minimum for harness type B
- 43 mm minimum for other harnesses
Non-load bearing shoulder and other straps must have these minimum widths :
- 23 mm for type B
- 28 mm other harnesses

Strength of the harness
|
The harness is fitted to the test dummy so that the rope attachment point is symmetrical on that dummy.
A load is applied gradually to the tie in point up to the tension indicated in the table. This is maintained for one minute and then released. The process is repeated, but this time the tension is maintained for 3 minutes.
