BEAL ropes conform to the international UIAA Standard

CLUB DES N°1 MONDIAUX

LOWEST IMPACT FORCE

Apart from Wall Master V, with very specific properties, all the single ropes have a maximum impact force of around 7 kN, and the double ropes around 5 kN.
But we go much further, because at the end of the series of successive test falls, our ropes still do not exceed the limit which is only required for the first fall! When you consider that rope loses some of its dynamic qualities with each fall, this is an incredible performance, guaranteed only by BEAL!

SHARP EDGES
The UIAA have developed a complementary test
to the normal one for testing the strength of
a rope over a metal edge. The standard UIAA test involves
a mass of 80-kg, with
a fall of factor 1.77,
held over a metal edge of 5mm radius to simulate a karabiner. The new test uses the same weight of 80-Kg (55-Kg for one strand of double rope), and the same fall factor, but this time over a sharp edge of just 0.75 mm radius.

Metal edge test

BEAL ropes resistant to at least 1 fall over a metal edge of 0.75mm radius:
Ice Twin (on two strands)
BOOSTER III 9,7 mm
FLYER II 10, 2 mm
TOP GUN II 10, 5 mm
APOLLO II 11 mm
COBRA II 8, 6 mm
VERDON II 9 mm
JOKER 9,1 mm
ICE TWIN 7, 7 mm
JOKER 9,1 mm

HIGH NUMBER OF FALLS

Although the UIAA requires a minimum resistance to 5 falls at factor 1.77, BEAL greatly exceeds the requirements
of the standards and goes well beyond this number of falls.
IDENTIFICATION

Chaque corde BEAL possède un N° individuel d’identification
présent sur le bout de corde ainsi qu’une carte d’identité
individuelle.

DRY COVER

Dry Cover is an exclusive BEAL procedure developed to make the sheaths of all BEAL dynamic ropes impermeable (Dry).

As everyone knows, ropes suffer, in addition to straightforward falls, all sorts of aggressions such as grit ingress, humidity, rubing, heating. . .

This is why a special process has been developed by BEAL to reinforce the real skin of the rope which the sheath constitutes.

It consists of a protection for each filament making up the sheath by a chemical cover. This cover is not simply placed on the filament, but polymerised under heat, forming an actual protective shell made of polymerised molecules.

In addition, to guarantee its permanence, this cover is fixed onto the molecules of the polyamide by chemical attachments.

Dry Cover protects the sheath of all BEAL dynamic ropes both by repelling water and by the protective film combating all sorts of wear.

COMPACT PROCESS
CORE and SHEATH
AS ONE

This exclusive weaving process renders core and sheath as one, ensuring a perfect equilibrium in the rope and giving it these unique attributes.

Lowers the impact force
It lowers the impact force, thus it spares the climber, it relieves the anchor points, it requires less effort from the belayer.

Increases the number of falls
It increases the number of falls before failure. The number of successive falls which the rope can withstand diminishes with age. With a much increased number of falls, the climber can thus fly in all serenity for longer.

Allows the rope to conserve its dynamic properties in use
It allows the rope to conserve its dynamic properties in use Fall on fall, the dynamic capacity of the rope decreases and the impact force increases.
Although the Standards only require an impact force below
the limit for the first factor 1.77 fall, BEAL ropes hardly reach this limit during the entire series of falls. Only BEAL, because of its Compact Process, can achieve this performance.

Eliminates sheath slippage in normal conditions of use
Thus the principal cause of premature sheath wear is suppressed thanks to the Compact Process which means no longer having slippage in normal use

LIFETIME

LIFETIME DYNAMIC ROPES AND ACCESSORY CORDS

Lifetime = Time of storage before first use + time in use.
The working life depends on the frequency and the type of use.
Abrasion, UV exposure and humidity gradually degrade the properties of the rope.
Note that with use, a rope thickens and thus loses up to 10 % length.
Storage time: In good storage conditions this product may be kept for 5 years before first use without affecting its future lifetime duration in use.

Lifetime:
- Intensive and daily use: 1 year.
- Weekly and intensive use: 2 years.
- Daily in-season use of average intensity: 3 years.
- Weekly in-season use of average intensity: 5 years.
- Several uses during the year of average intensity: 7 years.
- Very occasional light use: 10 years.

Attention : These are the nominal lifetimes indicated, a rope could be destroyed during its first use. It is the inspections which determine if the product must be scrapped more quickly. Proper storage between uses is essential. The lifetime of the rope in use must never exceed 10 years.
The total maximum lifetime (storage before use + lifetime in use) is thus limited to 15 years.

The rope must be retired earlier:
- if it has held a major fall, approaching fall factor 2
- if inspection reveals or even indicates damage to the core
- if the sheath is very worn
- if it has been in contact with any active or dangerous chemicals
- if there is the slightest doubt about its security

BEAL SEMI-STATIC ROPES LIFETIME
Lifetime = Time of storage before first use + time in use.
• The working life depends on the frequency and the type of use.
• Abrasion, UV exposure and humidity gradually degrade the properties of the rope.
• Note that with use, a rope thickens and thus loses up to 10 % length.
• Storage time: In good storage conditions this product may be kept for 5 years before first use without affecting its future lifetime duration in use.

Lifetime:
- Intensive and daily use: 6 months.
- Daily use of average intensity: 1 year.
- Weekly and intensive use: 1 year.
- Weekly use of average intensity: 2 years.
- Periodic daily use of average intensity: 3 years.
- Several uses during the year of average intensity: 5 years.

The rope must be retired immediately:
- if it has held a fall
- if inspection reveals or even indicates damage to the core
- if the sheath is very worn
- if it has been in contact with any active or dangerous chemicals
- if there is the slightest doubt about its security

BEAL Harness Lifetime
Lifetime = Time of storage before first use + time in use.
• The lifetime depends on the frequency and the type of use.
• Mechanical loads and rubbing diminish the properties of the harness little by little, UV and wetness may lead to accelerated ageing.
• Storage time: In good storage conditions this product may be kept for 5 years before first use without affecting its future lifetime duration in use.

Lifetime:
- Normal duration of use: 5 years.
- Occasional use: 10 years.

Attention: These are nominal lifetimes indicated, a harness could be destroyed on its first use. It is the inspections which determine if the product must be scrapped more quickly. Proper storage between uses is essential. The lifetime of the harness in use must never exceed 10 years.
The total maximum lifetime (storage before use + lifetime in use) is thus limited to 15 years.

A harness must be scrapped:
- if it has sustained a heavy fall even if no damage is apparent
- if the webbing has been damaged by abrasion, cutting, chemical agents or any other means
- if the stitching has been damaged
- if the buckles are not working well
- if it has been in contact with any active or dangerous chemicals.
- if there is any other doubt as to its security.
