HOT PROTECTOR
Before any use, read this notice carefully and then retain it.
This product is designed to provide basic protection against light abrasion, weld spatter, grinding sparks and momentary contact with elevated temperateures for the section of rope they are fitted to. Avoid all contact with sharp or abrasive edges whenever possible. Ensure that the Hot Protector is the correct length and covers the section of the rope requiring protection. If necessary use multiple Hot Protectors. The different components of the security system (harness, karabiners, pulleys…) must conform to the appropriate standards and be used with a full understanding of their usage and limitations in personal fall protection system. The compatibility of this product with the other elements in the security system must be verified. It is recommended that this equipment is allocated to one competent user during the lifetime of the product.
PRECAUTIONS
Always inspect the rope, Hot Protector and working edge before fitting. Confirm the protection is adequate for the task.
Once installed, check that the Hot Protector is the right size. Velcro or magnets have to be fully engaged.
During use check that the Hot Protector is correctly fitted, still in position and working effectively.
The Hot Protector is made of a combination of heat resisting fibre and aluminium foil. The Hot Protector can withstand temporary exposure to a directly applied heat source of up to 400°C. Typically, the ambient air temperature and that of a EN1891 or EN892 rope should not exceed 80°C.
Note: the magnets used to close and secure this product will continue to function at temperatures up to the point where the Hot Protector material is destroyed.
Before and during use, the possibility of rescue in case of difficulty must be considered and adequate preparations made.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Eliminate avoidable exposure to UV. Store and transport it in the shade, away from huEnglish Français midity and heat sources. For transporting, bear the same considerations in mind.
The Hot Protector must not be allowed to contact chemical agents, particularly acids which may destroy the fibers without visible evidence.
If it gets dirty, wash in cold, clean water, if necessary using a cleaning agent suitable for delicate fabrics, with a soft synthetic fibre brush. Disinfect only using materials that have no effect on the synthetic materials used.
If the Hot Protector has been soaked, either in use or by washing, leave to dry in a shaded place, away from any heat source.
Before and after each use, check the state of the Hot Protector.
Inspection should be carried out by a competent person on a regular basis to ensure user safety and product strength.
BEAL recommend as a minimum formal inspections every 3 months if in frequent use, annually for occasional use.
Any and all kinds of modification or repair are forbidden.
Never mask a deterioration under adhesive tape.
This product is personal equipment. During use outside your presence it could be subjected to serious and invisible damage.
In case of loaned use, the inspection controls must be doubled.
LIFETIME
Lifetime = Time of storage before first use + time in use.
Storage time : In ideal conditions this product may be kept for 5 years before first use without affecting its future lifetime duration in use.
Lifetime : The potential lifetime of this product in use is 10 years.
Attention: This is only a potential lifetime. A Hot Protector could be destroyed during its first use. It is the inspections which determine if the product must be scrapped more quickly. Proper storage between uses is essential. The lifetime of the sling in use must never exceed 10 years. The total maximum lifetime (storage before use + lifetime in use) is thus limited to 15 years.
The Hot Protector must be scrapped without delay if:
- on inspection it appears to be damaged,
- it has been in contact with dangerous chemical products,
- if there is the slightest doubt about its security.
WARNING
This Hot Protector is not PPE. It does not guarantee protection for ropes against all forms of impact, abrasion, excessive heat or chemical contamination.
Never use the Hot Protector as a sole guard against excessive heat, impact, sharp edges, solvents and corrosive substances.
Where exposure to heat has damaged the surface of the rope Hot Protector, then the Hot Protector and the rope it was attached to must be thoroughly examined by a competent person. If there is any boubt about the security of either then the affected product must be scrapped.
Never allow the Hot Protector or its connector to interfere with the opening and closing of any device attached to the rope.
Never use the Hot Protector as a lanyard protector.
Never allow moving ropes to come into contact with stationary ropes.
The various cases of incorrect use shown in this notice are not exhaustive, there are innumerable wrong uses possible, it is not feasible to show them all.
Activities at height are dangerous. They may lead to grave injury or death.
You are responsible for your own actions and decisions.
The clearance below the user must be sufficient to prevent the user from striking any obstacle in case of a fall.
This product must only be used by trained and competent personnel, or directly under the control of a competent person.
Any deviation from these rules brings risk of injury or death.
The use of this Hot Protector for, or on, hire is strongly inadvisable.
BEAL GUARANTEE
This product is guaranteed for 3 years against any faults in materials or manufacture. Exclusions from the guarantee: normal wear and tear, modifications or alterations, incorrect storage, poor maintenance, damage due to accidents, to negligence, or to improper or incorrect usage.
Responsibility
BEAL is not responsible for the consequences, direct, indirect or accidental, or any other type of damage befalling or resulting from the use of its products.
